Chloe & Daniel
Chloe and Daniel joined us for their wedding on Friday 1st October 2021 (after some postponement, thanks COVID) and what a day it was. You can tell Chloe is a creative soul because every element of their day was planned to perfection, completely cool and kick ass and they had really thought about every little detail. We caught up with Chloe to find out what her thoughts were about the day.
What made you choose Haarlem for your special day?
We only visited two venues when looking for the perfect one, and Haarlem was the very first one we saw. It was inevitable that we were going to go for Haarlem, the interior and decor already there gave the venue it’s very own character and I knew not much styling would be needed because it was practically already there. It was a no brainer, all the staff were incredible throughout from booking to the actual wedding day.
What was your favourite or most memorable moment from your wedding day?
My favourite moment was seeing Daniel at the end of the aisle, even after 13 years I was very nervous but I composed myself and surprisingly was quite chilled out the whole morning.
My most memorable moment was when Jo our photographer suggested photos up Black Rocks, Cromford. I had no idea I was going rock climbing, and then the smoke bomb I bought exploded and the purple ash went everywhere all over my face (luckily I made a dash for the bridal suite afterwards and fixed my make up) but I can’t wait to see those photos! We had such a good time an I know those memories will stay with us forever.
I think it made it even more special because I hate being in front of the camera but picking the right photographers really helped me feel at ease and getting the best natural shots, these photos will tell stories for years to come and the smiles on our faces will be priceless.
Tell us a bit about your theme or colour scheme?
The theme for my wedding, I don’t know if it was a particular theme as such, I just knew I wanted to keep the industrial elements of the building as a focal point and more fairy lights was a must.
As a designer and creative myself I knew I wanted to add my own flair to the day and I knew I wanted a pink neon! I think the pink neon probably was my starting point and then I went from there! My favourite colour is black and I love hot pink, so ideally that was the colour palette. From experience and telling people what I wanted for the day, they couldn’t understand or they couldn’t visualise my ideas - but they just needed to trust me because I knew it was going to look insane (and sorry if this sounds big headed but it did look pretty good).
I did all my own stationery and signage, including all menus and other extra signs throughout the venue.
I knew I wanted black geometric candle holders on the tables so I searched for them and bought a load!
The fairy light curtain was my idea, I think this really brought the wedding breakfast room together behind the top table.
I want to take a minute and appreciate the flowers. I found Hollie from Moss Floral Artistry on Instagram and I knew straight away I needed her to be involved in the day! I can’t take full credit, I only gave her some colour inspiration and what I wanted throughout the venue and I let her do her own thing to create the stunning florals throughout the venue. They really were a breath of fresh air and they went perfectly with everything.
My dress. What can I say? I am beyond thankful to two amazing people who helped me make my dream dress. I came to Abby about 4 months before the big day, I was struggling to find something similar to what I had seen as I wanted something more lightweight and simplistic. I had my own designs and drawings and a folder full of inspiration (Abby and Susie looked very pleased I was so organised) I work within the fashion industry anyway and I always wanted to design my own dress. Susie made my dream come to life in more ways than I could ever had imagined. There is a particular element on the dress that I needed including, Susie managed to recreate my Nanna’s handwriting on one of the tie lengths at the back, ‘I love you millions and millions sunshine’ is something she always said to me, in texts and cards and in person. Sadly, we lost her in March this year and it was a shock to everyone, it was more heartbreaking because she adored Daniel as her only grandson and I knew how much this day would have meant to her.
My cake was from the best of the best Dribble Cakes! I sent them inspiration of black cakes and they even said to me they like a challenge - Sorry about the swearing cake topper, that as my idea and no one knew about it, what they don’t know won’t hurt them!
